Three alt pop tracks to bring some variety to your weekend playlist

Mindy White – “Somewhere”
-When it comes to alt pop production, the use of space is absolutely key. It can’t be a full on banger or too subtle for the whole track. It’s a delicate balance. Mindy White’s track “Somewhere” has captured that balance with a sweet serenity. The chromatic chord changes, coupled with breathtaking harmonies, makes for a truly captivating. This is a wonderful song with textures that are delightfully unexpected. This one is sure to appeal to a lot of our traditional as well as more contemporary readers.

Lyncs – “Ashes”
-If you like a pop tune with an emotional, moving energy to it you’ll find a lot to like from Lyncs here. It’s about cheating. It’s about faithfulness. It’s about trying to cope with your own reflections on a broken relationship. The energy on the chorus feels almost like a dance track, although the mood is certainly more of a contemplative style. The lyrics focus on wrestling through the complex emotions of a broken relationship and seeking a new meeting. It’s a great song for having a celebratory mood as you move away from a broken relationship. Lyncs has a great voice and plenty of confidence to make this one stick in the performance.

Wingtip – “Down (Exit song)”
-I’m always a sucker for a good acoustic guitar riff and a nice lead vocal… but then Wingtip takes this from good to great with a really high quality melody. Something about those chromatic walking verses feel oh so comfortable musically. The duo vocal that enters on the second verse pops perfectly here as well. The storytelling and mood vibes are so good on this track. The duo harmonies here are as sweet as can be. The lyric, “if I don’t love then you’ll never let me down.” What a concept! It’s the logical opposite of what love actually is, but you can’t tell me we haven’t all had this defense mechanism. Infinitely relatable, sonically adorable, and an exceptional duo vocal performance — this is a must listen and a must share.
