Kid Charleroi – “Count me out”
-The harmonies on this track are so fun! Actually, the whole composition is a lot of fun. Kid Charleroi has a youthful vibrancy to the style that comes through from start to finish. I appreciate the strategic placement of the harmonies to really make them pop on the chorus. The horns are a nice touch as well. I like how it seems like this little twee bop of a song, then a ripping electric guitar solo comes into the centerpiece of the track. This is just such a good time! Give it a spin, friends.
lemongel – “The other side”
-The experimental vibes of this track are engaging from the very start, but once the vocal starts there’s a fantastic soulful groove that is the essence of the track. I’m sure there are some great comp artists for this sound, but I don’t know them but it’s a subgenre of pop that I am certainly interested to learn. The layered vocals and snappy energy blends really well with the groove. The lyrics focus on a rocky (or outright broken?) relationship. The uncertainty and mixture of love with the brokenness is captured in the sometimes shifting beat as well as the melodic style. It’s not a dance track, per se, but it definitely got me grooving and feeling something.
Morrow – “Let go”
-If you tell people you’re a fan of indie pop music, there are a lot of ways they may take it but this track is a fantastic example of the best of the genre. It has an endearing, easy to follow chord progression and inviting singalong lyrics. The chorus actually feels like a warm hug with a bunch of friends. (You do that, right?) The groove of the song is sure to get people dancing, but the whole ethos of the song is about… well… letting go and seeing how things might evolve in connection. Instead of waiting for the exact perfect situation, sometimes you just need to let go and enjoy where you are. This is the perfect song for this time of year and the promise that seems evident in spring into summer.
