Three unique folk songs that you’ll want to bring a sense of calm

Juniper Vale – “How do I love you?”
-The atmospheric energy of this track won me over right away. The vocal, though, was on another level. Just… wow. It’s not every day that I find a song that stops me in my tracks the way this did. I was listening and enjoying the peaceful indie pop style in the opening, but the vocal and simple poetic lyrics really take it to another level. This is calming in instrumentation, but also the reassurance of someone loving “too much” is a wonderful concept for contemplation.

Amble – “Mariner boy”
-Every so often there’s a submission that’s so perfectly, epically folk music that I have to support it. This is one of those rare songs that captures not just current folk music, but the long and storied history of the genre. Everything from the acoustic guitar to the quality of the lead vocal is absolutely outstanding on this recording. The storytelling elements really come to life and the unhurried nature of the recording is absolutely exceptional. The Old World accents, timeless lyrical theme, and outstanding performance makes it all work so well. This is… a gem.

Tommy Ashby – “My old man”
-This is a wonderful layered folk song with a depth of sound you cannot fully grasp in one listen. I encourage listeners to spin this one multiple times, focusing on a different aspect each time. The narrative folk lead vocal is excellent (we’ve covered Ashby before), but then listen to the rhythm section, the guitar, and then a final time with the whole thing together. It’s a fantastic bit of production that makes for a full, rewarding folk style. This is what we mean when we tell people we love folk music; this is an excellent tune and we hope you all add it to your playlists.
