Three folk singer songwriters to sweeten this midweek

Luke Sital-Singh – “Strange weather”
-March is a month known for it’s “lousy” weather, you might say. So it seems a befitting time to feature this new track from Luke Sital-Singh about strange weather. Of course the song isn’t literally about the weather (I think?), rather about the metaphorical strangeness of the time that we live in. There’s a lot of existential anxiety in contemporary society. The song brings together gorgeous atmospheric elements with Sital-Singh’s characteristically quality guitar and vocal work. The composition makes for a satisfying, engaging overall modern folk track well worth your time.

Tolan Shaw – “Before I do”
-Well this is the sweetest, saddest song I’ve heard in a very long time. Every line feels like a poetic expression of love and the hope of forever. The quality in Shaw’s voice reminds me of that timeless gospel-country-pop style that invites listeners right into connection. The lyrics are about “getting there,” but “there” is never defined in the track. My interpretation is that the song is about someone else passing away to heaven. How do you interpret these lyrics? Sammy Vulcano – “Does anybody talk to anybody anymore”
-This is either a song about a dystopian reality or it’s a song about reality that describes it in dystopian ways. Maybe it’s both/and? Regardless of how you hear the lyrical concept of the song, it’s a really fascinating piece of songwriting. It’s a bit of social commentary with a hit tip toward classic folk artists who encouraged people to be more human in the midst of rapidly changing society (think Pete Seeger in particular). This track has a bit of that energy to it along with a dash of melancholy about our sense of social isolation. If this track hits you just right, give a friend a call or better yet swing by for a visit. You’ll both be glad you did.
