National Park Radio – “When the morning comes”
-The lightness and life in this track emerges from the first note played. There’s an optimism to the lyrical vibe as well that I’m happy to support here. It’s a sound that reminds me a bit of the 2010s folk revival that saw some intriguing folk bands really take off. National Park Radio bring powerhouse vocals, energetic string work, and meaningful lyrics to a pop-leaning indie folk sound. It’s a great sound that is right at home hear on the EarToTheGround.
The Franklin Electric – “Call me”
-This vocal… man. This one gets me. It has gotten me every time I’ve played it since the day I found it. The phrasing is poetic. There’s a sincerity in the vocal that I really admire on this track. The acoustic guitar is cathartic and pleasing, but the whole composition on this track is exactly what I love about folk music. Something about the vocal reminds me of Kenneth Pattengale (of the Milk Carton Kids), which is high praise. This whole energy and performance – the sense of impending heartache – feels so visceral and powerful. I adore this one and I hope you all will as well.
Ivan & Alyosha – “Gold”
-Just click play. Seriously there’s not much I can say about this song that will change the fact that it is an absolute blazing HIT song. I like how it’s got this pop folk vibrancy that propels the sound. The vocal harmonies are exceptional. The moving energy does a great job of capturing the youthful exuberance of the lyrics. It seems to me the lyrics are about being at a stage of life that life has taken a turn toward the negative, but a nostalgic connection back to when things were wonderful. What do you think? Leave your interpretation of the lyrics in the comments down below. Thanks for checking out this track and let me know if you agree that it should be a top 40 HIT regardless of genre.
