Eva Snyder – “I’ve got a crazy idea”
-The lyrical theme of this song is all about developing maturity and stability. It’s a subtle song about casting vision for your future with that special someone. The parts of life don’t really seem all that wild, with typical dreams of living a life together with small pleasures. But the overall message isn’t “crazy,” at all — it’s about making the commitment to be devoted to someone forever. As someone coming up on 17 years of marriage to my best friend, let’s just say I can relate. I love this song a lot and hope the writer finds this “crazy” life.
Biz Colletti – “Half of you”
-The minimalist style on the electric guitar in the opening creates plenty of space for the beautiful vocal from Biz Colletti on this intriguing new track. It’s got elements of indie pop and some downtempo electronic styles, but it’s easily in the adult contemporary space. The mature lyrics focus on the breakdown of a relationship with someone who is closing off. There’s a nice mix of abstract imagery with concrete, sincere emotion. The chilled out vibe works to set up the soaring vocal on the chorus that allows the emotion of the track to flow freely.
Eliza Harrison Smith – “Didn’t love me”
-This is a song about unrequited love and the pain is evident from the opening line. The up tempo style might seem like a juxtaposition with the sad lyrical vibe, but that’s actually the point; this is a song about someone who so coolly moved on that it wasn’t even a hard break up. Well, it was a one-sided hard breakup. Facing the truth that the other person didn’t share love in the same way is the “different kind of hurt” captured with this song. It’s raw and real, engaging with the gripping pain of a fractured relationship. Smith’s vocal has a beautiful mix of sweet sincerity and a smoky resonance; the combination is an intimate conversational message.
