The Feelings Parade – “St Judy’s Comet” (Paul Simon cover)
-We don’t feature covers very often, so when we do it’s because it’s exceptionally good. The Feelings Parade bring us a Paul Simon track with some beautiful, gentle folk harmonies. There’s a coolness to the composition that really makes it feel like it goes down smooth. The harmonies are my favorite part, but this version does such a nice job of preserving the Paul Simon charm but also has its own fresh production sense to it. I highly recommend adding it to your playlists and smile on every listen.
Miriam Jameson – “Waiting”
-I don’t always get chills when I listen to music, but it has happened every time I have listened to this song. When I shared it on my personal social media, I described it as something spiritual with the piece. I feel an instant connection to the writing. There are no lyrics, yet I feel like I can feel a connection with the meaning of it. I used to write about neoclassical music and a piece like this makes me want to bring it back; there’s something spectacular about the phrasing and overall meaning here. I don’t know Jameson’s message in this song, but to me it’s about taking a moment to stop and reflect apart from all the hustle and drive that the world tells us is necessary. Sometimes joy is in a plaintive, contemplative melody.
James Ghareeb – “Crooks”
-Music can be a multi-sensory experience; it’s more than just what we hear. This track from James Ghareeb makes me feel a chilling sensation. It also makes me see some fascinating images and color combinations that are almost cinematic. The syncopated beat and understated guitar work do a great job in establishing a cool energy that allows Ghareeb’s vocal to connect with the listener. It’s an intriguing piece of writing for sure.
