Wax Owls – “Lie for me”
-If you’re a fan of lush soundscapes and brilliant folksy harmonies, check out this track from Wax Owls. It’s got a beautiful, bright energy to it. The lead vocal bounces from standard register to falsetto and back with great ease. The layered vocal harmonies on the chorus will have people singing along. The composition feels like a blending of top-40 pop and throwback folk music — and it works! This is a fun track you should definitely check out.
Neighbor – “We’re alright”
-The opening line of this track is “I believe we were made for so much more.” Yes. Exactly. The song could stop there and it would be worth sharing. The feel-good vibes of the track are infectious. The group singing style makes it so that listeners feel compelled to sing along to the “we’re alright, we’re okay” refrain. It’s a fun, optimistic track. At a time of so much political and cultural unrest, declaring that we are defiantly “okay” feels like an important declaration.
Field Guide – “Leave you lonely”
-The easy going energy of this track immediately connected with me. Then the vocal entered and I felt a connection with the sensitive vibes at the heart of the track. If you’re a fan of mid-70s folk rock, you’ll find a lot to like with this understated, vibey track from Field Guide. Heck, even the effect on the electric guitar helps to create a mood that works for the song. I love when the pacing, effects, and lyrics all blend together in such a seamless way. This track is excellent.
