Three talented new folk artists that you’ll want in your playlists this week

Ocie Elliott – “Coming home”
-If you’ve been around our folk coverage in the past year or so, you know that we have featured Ocie Elliott a few times. Click on this song and it’s easy to hear what makes the sound so great. It’s an unhurried, peaceful style of folk music that invites introspection and careful listening. If you’ve ever felt something deep inside yourself that makes you think and dream about someone even long after you’ve been with them, this song will definitely connect. It’s romantic, sure, but it’s also this deeply human sense of the impact we have on one another. It’s beautifully performed and quite rewarding.

Josh Warren – “Learning”
-No matter who you are, I can guarantee you are not ready for the way this song will peer into your soul. Josh Warren has written the kind of song that unsettles even the toughest of us. I love the chromatic chord changes and the calming acoustic guitar. Somehow the organ in the background creates this sentimentality that works extraordinarily well. If you are a fan of emotional, thought provoking, deeply personal music then give this one a chance. I am a bit unsettled at how much I can relate to Warren’s lyrics on this unbelievable track.

Genevieve Racette and Dallas Green – “Someone”
-There’s a subtle pop-meets-folk sentiment to this track that really works well. The immutable Dallas Green (City and Colour) lends support to this track. To be honest, Racette is exceptional on her own but adding this accomplished duo voice to the sound really makes the performance outstanding. That phrase, “but I got to go home to someone” is… absolutely loaded with layers of meaning. The tension and mystery to this song is really phenomenal. It’s one of those songs that permeates places in your heart you might not want to talk about openly. The fact that these talented artists are able to address this openly is really magical and worth a listen.
