Three new singer songwriters to be thankful for

Emily Shirley – “Survivors”
-Take a quality piano part and an exceptional vocal… sprinkle in some personal lyrics and an encouraging message… oh yeah, that’s the stuff right there. The songwriting from Emily Shirley feels like a familiar old favorite mixed with a fresh take. The lyrical message is about holding on when times are difficult. The verse about freezing pipes and struggling to stay warm is relatable for our coming winter season. But the metaphor of perseverance is an important one that we can all embrace regardless of whether your winter is literal or figurative. Let’s get through this, friends.

Brian Mackey – “My only friend”
-The easy going fiddle work on this track sets a nice mood. I don’t know what to call the genre of this song as it certainly has Americana, folk, and singer songwriter elements to it. No matter what you call the music, the lyrics are endearing. If you’ve ever had a friend who is there for you no matter what, you’ll understand the lyrics on this track. The mix of guitar, fiddle, and vocal harmonies make for a song that feels both old fashioned and contemporary. Get your toes tapping and share this one with your best friend. You won’t regret it.

Hayes Peebles – “Fall, TN”
-Man, oh man. This song. Whew. This one knocked me back when I heard it the first time. Give it a spin and you’ll see why. It’s presumably a classic Americana jam about a season in Tennessee. But, as with most song, there’s more to it than that. The cathartic electric guitar lulls the listener to listen to the quality lyrics that are heartbreaking. This is a blues song, really, lamenting a bygone relationship. The swooning steel guitar is exceptional. Every single part in the track seems to grasp the longing sincerity of the lyrics. It’s an outstanding work of synergy between lyrics and instrumentation. This one will make you order another round of whatever you’re drinking, trust me.
