Three Americana tunes to get your week going on the right step

Cole Hill – “Arms of Paradise”
-The first thing I thought about when I found this song was that it reminds me of home. By that I mean it feels familiar and sweet, like going home to where you grew up (if you have good memories). Hill’s songwriting has a nostalgic charm to it that’s sure to make a lot of fans. This is not the typical Americana vibe that we feature, offering more of a polished and commercial feel to it. That said, between the guitar, organ, and lead vocal, it still gives off a vibe that we’re happy to support. By the time you finish your first listen, you’ll be singing along as well.

Bob Sumner – “California”
-If you’re looking for a western vibe, check out Bob Sumner’s track “California.” It reminds me of the desert. There’s a feeling that’s equal parts lonesome and free. There’s an authenticity to Sumner’s songwriting and phrasing that absolutely stands out from the crowd. I feel like I said this the last time I wrote about Sumner, but he has a penchant for writing with a Blaze Foley style of approachable and likeable familiarity. This is a decidedly sweet and poetic piece of songwriting. Give it a spin.

Kevin Coons – “Rattlesnake Canyon”
-If you’re looking for an upbeat rock-rooted Americana sound, check out the latest from Kevin Coons. Something about the hypnotic beat pulls me in on this one. Sometimes the production mix makes it hard to understand the lyrics, but the overall grittiness feels like quality Americana. There’s a dark vibe to the track that is sure to appeal to some of our readers who prefer their Americana with a bit more grit than average. Give it a spin and see if the melancholy desperation appeals to you as well.
