Three folksy indie pop tracks at the nexus of the genres’ connection

Okay Mann – “Sous”
-The acoustic guitar energy of this track is delightful. As the song unfolds, it feels more and more like a pop track rather than a folk song. The vocal has a nice polish to it, making it easy to listen to and even sing along. I don’t fully know what the lyric “sous” means, but it makes for a joyful singalong chorus word. It’s a light romantic tune about the hopeful early stages of a relationship. Give it a spin.

Sterre Weldring – “I’m gone”
-Something abotu Sterre Weldring’s voice immediately reminded me of site favorite Anna Tivel. I genuinely appreciate the intimacy captured in this recording. It feels like a classic folk tune in a lot of ways. The vocal quality is exceptional and the instrumentation suits the mood of the track perfectly. The lyrics capture a relationship dynamic where one partner is being vulnerable while the other is not; this is a common issue and not one that is often captured in song. The thoughtful yet emotional balance of this track is really something special.

Eric Frisch – “Morning Light”
-As an avid folk fan, I have to say I love everything about this song. It’s got an approachable sound that works from start to finish. The vocals are my favorite, but the instrumentation feels classic as well. When I shared this song with my friends, I actually said it sounds like “classic 60s… all at the same time.” By that I mean I hear elements of 60s boardwalk pop blended with folk revival. It’s all there and it works really well. I dig it. I hope you do too.
