Kate McGill – “Friday” (acoustic)
-If you’re looking for a relaxing acoustic style track, give Kate McGill a listen. This track is as much an intimate conversation or diary as a song… and I’m here for it. The expressive guitar is perfectly paired with the beautiful melodic lines and lyrical delivery. It’s rare to find a song that is so well balanced between purpose, style, and presentation. It is a work of musical art and well worth your time.
Mouad – “Lorraine”
-In the past few years I’ve come to realize that I am an absolute sucker for a nice chromatic chord change in a pop-flavored song. Mouad’s work here reminds me of “Something” by the Beatles in the best way possible. The expressive lyrical work is really well done. The entire composition feels like a sweet calling out for unrequited love to come true. It’s a wonderful, thoughtful acoustic piece of music.
Jillian Lake – “XVII”
-This track could probably be put on an indie pop playlist as readily as a singer songwriter list. That said, Jillian Lake has a captivating composition style here that stands out from the crowd immediately. The vocal is relatable and interesting. The rest of the production is right in that chill pocket that is not quite dance and is a little faster than total downtempo. The mid range works great for this song, which is nostalgic in some ways while also being embracing a new place and a new direction. If you’re looking for a jam that will encourage some introspective thoughts, check out this track from Jillian Lake.
