Three acoustic singer songwriters for your mid September chill

Roos Meijer – “To be free”
-There’s a heartfelt sincerity to this track that resonates with me every time I click play on it. Meijer writes with a depth and honesty that is absolutely brilliant. There’s a poetic sincerity that I hesitate to try to even put into words of my own because the lyrics are so good. Take the melancholy chord structure as your cue and listen carefully to the heartache. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anything quite like this; it’s breathtaking and well worth your time.

Marti West – “The way back home”
-If you’re looking for a relaxing acoustic style, you can’t do much better than Marti West. The song has a contemplative style from the lyrics to the acoustic work. But… and you probably already know what’s coming… it’s the harmonies that get me. “Oh mama… won’t you show me the way back.” Whether you have/had a good “mama” or not, the sentiment of returning home with that maternal figure is really powerful. “I wake up in the night wishing I was gone.” The song is about being lost, adrift, and needing to be rooted with that sense of “home” which is, of course, different for everyone. Lyrically, sonically, and existentially… I adore this.

Mackin Carroll – “Anxious in the Alley”
-The first thing I did when I approved this track was to share it with a few of my music-lovin buddies. You know I really dig a track if I share it with specific people. Mackin Carroll’s style is definitely relatable, with this snappy, personable lyric style and pop rock energy that matches. The vibe connects with what I first loved about Good Old War. I like the energy of the lyric “you don’t have to feel this way.” Anyone who has ever dealt with depression or anxiety in any way will relate to this thoughtful, groovy song.
