Three new Americana/country tracks for your midweek

CF Watkins – “Dogwood”
-I don’t play favorites when I cover music, but I do have to admit CF Watkins is one of my favorite finds of 2020. The glowing, old time sentiments of this track (and others from Watkins) are enough to restore my faith in country music. The slow waltz time of this track soothes my soul. This track could have been on a jukebox seventy years ago and no one would have been the wiser. Spin it and enjoy Watkins’s beautiful, soulful country vocals.

Madeline Finn – “For you”
-Okay don’t let the electric guitar fool you about the genre or style of this track. Listen. To. The Lyrics. Holy wow. Finn writes with a searing precision that will cut right into your life experience. The reflection on the music industry is really interesting, but the freeing “nothing to lose” sentiment from Finn reminds me of something the “outlaws” of country would have written in the 60s. If you’re a fan of Kacey Musgraves and Margo Price, put Finn on your playlist. You’ll dig her voice, lyrics, and band.

Timber Choir – “Right beside me”
-I adore these vocal harmonies. This is the kind of folk duo you hope to find when you look for new music. I appreciate the subtle poetic lyricism as well. It’s a really remarkable song that sort of crept up on me when I first clicked play. “Oh this is good… this is REALLY good…” If you feel that way about it, too, share it with a few friends. It helps the band and will make your friend smile too. This is a sweet one.
