If you are interested in alt rock music, Bullrider is a rising band that you need to check out. They can write some of the most infectious hooks we’ve heard in recent memory. We featured them in a NMF a little while ago. They were so good we wanted to bring them back. Check out these three cool tracks.
The track that brought our attention to Bullrider is “Curious.” It’s an exceptional pop rock song that gets my feet really going. Of course the opening harmony is what draws in the listener’s attention, but the way the chords lay out a roadmap for the track and the lead vocal soars over it. It’s a really outstanding song. I want to sing those “oooh” parts at a show with a bunch of other fans SO BAD.
The second track on this little EP is “Dream Life.” It’s a rad track with a really unique melody to it. Sometimes we tell a band that their music just “doesn’t stand out” and this song is like the posterchild for what we mean by “standing out.” Yes it’s the same genre of alt rock you’ve been hearing your whole life, but the song itself reaches right out and grabs you. THIS IS WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT. The lyrics are self-consciously reflective about conflict and change. I really enjoy the transitions between full, harmonic chords and some of the dissonant sounds that give the song an edge. Good stuff.
The third track “Happy” reminds me of so many different songs from the late 90s and early 2000s, but it really has a unique fresh feel to it. The lyrics are about living a rich life by deciding to be with someone special. What I really appreciate is that it’s like a philosophical reflection wrapped up in a a pop rock jam. It keeps your head moving while providing thoughtful reflections on contentment and motivation. It’s about happiness, but not at the same time. I’ll take a slice of existential meditation with a side of power chord, thankyouverymuch.
