Smooth, like a good rye whiskey- that’s how I’d have to describe Chelsea Morgan and The Woven Soles’ new album, Focus. The Australian singer/songwriter has begun playing with her talented musician colleagues and truly makes beautiful music, as the cliche goes. This album draws from her experience as a counselor, and it’s hard to deny the connection she makes in these songs. Powerful while poignant, her sound is reminiscent of a less cynical Alanis Morissette or The Waifs. The addition of double bass and djembe add dimension to the lyrics, and Morgan is more than capable of both writing and performing songs from a masculine perspective; these two things make The Woven Soles’ Focus stand out in any crowd.
Tracks: Sunshine, How Do You Do It, Beautiful Night, Two Worlds Collide, If I Didn’t Have to Decide, Fine Line, Take It With Me, That’s You, Jane, Stay, Pink Lady
Personnel: Chelsea Morgan (vocals), Troy Downward (guitar), Tom Campbell-Dick (guitar), Djulz Chambers (djembe), Jayden Williams (double bass, vocals)
