Over the Rhine, one of Paste Magazine’s 100 best living songwriters (or groups), just released a Christmas album on Noisetrade and it’s incredible. It’s full of original songs, which is unique for a Christmas album, and sad songs, which is maybe not so unique. Christmas, for me, has always been a lonely time of year because of the expectations of songs, family, friends, lovers. The first song on the album is “All I Ever Get For Christmas is Blue”, a sad, but hopeful song about the pitfalls of the Christmas season.
While this album is a gift, free and wonderful, a few songs stand out and perhaps the best one, the one that most personifies the feelings and hope of the yuletide season is “White Horse”.
If you’re in the Pittsburgh or Cleveland Area, Over The Rhine will be at The Kent Stage in Kent, OH on December 15th. AND you can download their free album below.
