Mia Wilson – “I Want It All”
-When I shared this song with a friend, his reply was “Mama Mia!” Clever, but relevant. This sound is impressive, capturing a timeless energy that will have listeners *of a certain age* remembering bygone eras. The cinematic string work sets a beautiful mood while the exceptional vocals from Wilson warm the place fully and completely. This is a remarkable production mix, too, that allows the listener to feel the nostalgia of the time. I appreciate that it has some parts folk, some theatrical, and some classic rock… but it all blends to create a unique sound that helps the listener lean into the lyrical message. This is a song about getting the most out of life with an unapologetic panache.
Rosie Holloway – “Warm Cuppa Tea”
-From the first piano chords of this song, I felt a connection with it. If you’re a fan of tea, you’ll know just how perfect this title is… a warm cup of tea warming the soul (along with the body). There’s nothing that a warm cup of tea can’t fix (most of the time). There’s a comforting energy to this song at the core of the main verse, but it’s the chorus that soars into ballad territory. I appreciate how the song refuses to be categorized but absolutely feels balanced. This is a wonderful track and Holloway’s vocals are outstanding. It’s a listening experience as much as an individual song; I hope you’ll take time to enjoy it.
Mae Bradbury – “What I Needed To Know”
-I’m not sure that “singer songwriter” is even a genre, but you all know what I mean when I say that. Bradbury is a singer songwriter, capturing beautiful sentiments with expressive songwriting lines that convey rich, rewarding emotions. There are layered strings here that evoke a comforting emotional landscape quite well. The imagery is about nature, but there’s also this spiritual energy to it that feels intriguing as well. The whole song feels like it defies easy categorization, with classic elements (especially in the vocal and strings) all while fitting within something akin to contemporary folk styling as well. It’s just… beautiful music. I don’t need a genre to explain why you should listen; just click play and melt into this one. It’s really worthwhile.
