Three new indie rock tracks that show the current vibrancy of the genre

Phoric – “Prevent”
-There’s a dynamic energy to this track right from the start. The percussive style is present in the drums as well as the vocal phrasing. It’s has a real sense of movement. The lyrics have a loaded, emotional character to them. It’s a song about overanalyzing a relationship. It’s probably a touch more moody than the rock we typically feature, but it works on this particular track. Fans of alt rock and indie rock overall will find a lot to like on this one.

Meghan Curtin – “Less Is More”
-If you’re a fan of pop rock and a killer vocal, definitely check out this track from Meghan Curtin. The overall vibe feels like it could have been on the radio any time from about 1990 to the present. The chord progression feels familiar and the melody is sweet, but it’s the clarity of the vocal and the simple line, “you’re lovin’ me like less is more” is fantastic. There’s a comp to be made for the recent movement in powerful pop rock vocalists like Olivia Rodrigo or Phoebe Bridgers. Curtin’s style fits in nicely with these types of talented artists. It’s the kind of song that highlights relational complexity all while having a positive energy to the song that makes it perfect for a summer rock playlist.

KRUPUNK – “Change”
-The distortion in the opening of the song was almost enough to make me say no thanks, but then I hit that first power chord and smiled. Oh yeah, this is ROCK! The contrast between the heavy guitars and the understated (yet solid) vocal makes for a blend that I’m absolutely thrilled to support. The harmonies on the chorus put me in mind of vintage Maroon 5, yet much of the production feels more like “mainstream metal” in the vein of artists like Breaking Benjamin. I know I’m showing my age with those comps, but honestly these are the bands that KRUPUNK remind me of. It’s a sound that has the potential to really take off as it brings together some beloved subgenres within rock. This song, a tale about perseverance because of how far you’ve come, has genuine hit potential.
