Dylan Dunlap – “Soldier on”
-Sometimes I think the term “inspirational” is overused, but I really do find Dunlap’s composition here to be inspirational. It’s the kind of composition that combines incredible harmonies with this sense of perserverance. Reflect a bit on where you’ve been and where you’re going. Dunlap’s writing style reminds me a bit of Ben Folds. There’s a piano and vocal foundation to the track that gives it a truly timeless and approachable quality even as it soars to inspiring heights.
Jacob Noal – “Old trouble remade new”
-The gentle acoustic style of this track is sure to catch the attention of even the hardest hearted listener. As the song’s narrative style unfolds, there’s almost a familiarity to it. Have I heard this before? No, you probably haven’t. But Noal does an incredible job of integrating familiar acoustic styles while standing out as its own track. I love… and I mean LOVE… the vocal harmonies on this one. It’s truly a hidden gem.
Olivia Ellen Lloyd – “River run”
-I’m a fan of Olivia Ellen Lloyd’s classic songwriting style. As someone who spends a lot of time listening to demos in this roots country style, I can say it’s incredible rare to find such a talented songwriter. The easy going style of this track makes it seem like it’s just going to be a sweet story, but it’s actually a hard hitting introspective track. The layers of imagery here will have you listening over and over; it feels good to listen to it, but like a stiff drink it’ll catch you on the other end. I just have to say that even though I wanted to cover this song for ETTG, it actually connected with me personally and unexpectedly deeply. For that, I’d like to say a personal thank you Olivia.
