Three brand new indie folk pop tunes that will remind you why you decided to subscribe to this site

The Strumbellas – “Hanging Out in my Head”
-I always appreciate when I find a song that feels like it comes from my own experience. I’m no songwriter, but I definitely feel a connection with this feeling of being in your own head. If I don’t write (howdy, here I am) I can get locked in with a similar mental prison. There’s a bouncy production style that makes this feel like a thoroughly pop tune with some folk leanings. The banjo in the background gives some grounding texture as well. If you’re a fan of the pop-tinged country (no, not THAT kind) that has a toe-tapping beat and some spirited lyrics, definitely give the Strumbellas a follow. They’re one of those bands that always seems to garner a “yes!” from us and it’s easy to hear why.

Allie Dever – “Bargain Price”
-From the first time I clicked play on this track, I stopped completely to focus on the song. Dever has one of those voices that stands out from the crowd. I’m pretty sure even the first time I heard her, I wanted to get her in the room with Andrea von Kampen for a show or a cowrite or just to let them jam together; they seem like kindred spirits. If you’re a fan of careful folk singer songwriters who have emotional depth in their work, you should give Dever’s music a chance. The lyrics are about finally pushing back against someone who doesn’t value you sufficiently (or at least that’s my take on it). There’s a tenderness and boldness in equal measure here that I admire a great deal. Listen once to just feel the energy of the track, then listen again to lean into the lyrics; it’s worth the engagement.

Alec McGarry – “Brother”
-If you’re looking for a clean, easy going indie folk pop track click play on this one. The production is outstanding. In a world with artists like Noah Kahan making it to the top 40, artists like McGarry have a real shot. The biggest thing we can do to support art like this is to spin and share it. The tender vocal delivery and easy going guitar work feels just right for the indie folk mood. The message contains this personable connection. The layers build through the track, creating both a rising energy as well as a stronger sense of connection between the characters.
