Three unique acoustic folk tunes to set a contemplative mood

Roman Lakes – “Home Tonight”
-I appreciate the cathartic acoustic picking on this track. It sets a contemplative mood right from the start. Lakes has a soothing vocal that allows the lyrics to be communicated with a soft, engaging style. If you have ever had a special someone promise to see you back at home after a long day, it’s just about the tenderest experience. This song captures that intimacy well. Not every song needs to have a dissertation on humanity or meaning; sometimes it’s just a sweet ode to longing to be home with someone you love.

Abby Posner – “I’m Doing Fine”
-“Love, sweet love, why’d you have to go?” This is one of the sweetest heartache songs I’ve heard in a long time. The brightness in the composition is quite satisfying. The layering of the stringed instruments creates a really lovely texture that somehow gets better with each subsequent listen. There’s an almost prayerful sincerity in the lyrical delivery that makes it feel familiar. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this one already, but I know I’ll spin it more. It’s just so sweet.

Steve Stout and Blondfire – “walls”
-This song opens with a soft, contemplative acoustic guitar and a well-delivered sincere vocal. The intimacy of the recording is evident right from the start, but once the harmony vocal enters it goes from good to great. There’s something about the vocal tones here that reminds me of Rusty Clanton and Tessa Violet. That’s high praise for indie folk nerds like me. Anyways, there’s something satisfying about the orchestral texturing in this recording that gives it a sense of sonic depth. This sincerely sounds like it could be from a film score. This is what I mean when I tell people I love indie folk music; this is artful, tasteful, and engaging.
