Three brand new indie rock tracks that will help you celebrate the summer

Aadhav – “Keep Myself Alive”
-Every once in a while a song comes along that stops me in my tracks and makes me say, “I’ve never heard anything like this.” I don’t think I could clap the rhythm of this song if you made me. That said, if you stop trying to analyze it and you just groove out to it, it’s a great tune. If it’s any indication how I feel about this track, I stopped what I was doing and shared it with my favorite drummer. How’s that for a compliment? Anyways, it’s lyrically about a tale of endurance. But if you spin it, you’ll hear the complexity as a badge of honor on this one. It’s definitely an unconventional version of rock music in the best way possible.

Ava McCoy – “More Than a Friend”
-Music fans of a certain age will remember what rock music was like in the early 90s and how you couldn’t listen to the radio for a half hour without hearing a song like this. It was a wonderful time to experience the expressiveness of alternative rock that went against the traditional narrative. Ava McCoy is the spiritual successor of those talented artists from the Lilith Fair and the overall gritty alt rock style of that era. The lyrics on this track are somewhat about romance, but they’re ultimately about standing out for independence. It’s a breakup song with teeth, sharing genuine concerns and reasons to end the relationship. I appreciate the tight production style that makes it easy for the listener to get into the music and follow the lyrical message. It’s just very well done from start to finish.

Sean Waits – “Don’t Waste Your Time”
-I appreciate the positive groove on this track that emerges right from the start. The kickdrum invites the listener right into the mood of the track. The vocal is solid, providing an accessible style that feels like a friend sharing a good story. The lyrics are essentially a warning about wasting time pursuing something that both of you can tell from the outset it’s not going to work. A lot of us could benefit from this type of bluntness in our own lives. The commanding (or is it convicting?) section about getting off you @$$ to do something meaningful really hits home. I’ve been running a blog for 14 years… does that count for something? I sure hope so. I hope it’s not a waste of my time (or yours).
