Euan Morris – “Hailey”
-If you’re looking for an acoustic driven sound that pulls the listener in right away, definitely give Euan Morris a shot. The song has a heavily narrative style with the song’s namesake Hailey featuring right from the start. It appears to be a romantic tune, since Hailey is the “one I’ve been searchin’ for.” It’s got an accessible energy that makes the listener feel connected to the potential relationship. The vocal feels familiar and the overall vibe is up tempo enough to keep toes tapping. It makes the listener want to know… did they end up together?
Frances Whitney – “Something I Wanted”
-I sometimes think I use the word “cathartic” too much when I write about music, but this song really has that cathartic energy to it. The acoustic guitar is calming right from the start. The vocal does an amazing job of bringing a calming presence as well. Even though it’s not a “slow” song per se, it has this ability of encouraging peacefulness. I do like the line, “nothing pays better than doing what you love.” This is a great song for someone who might be seeing the new year as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf in life whether that’s with work, love, or other relationships. It’s an inspiring and accessible tune that I’m happy to support here.
AGE of the BEAR – “Story”
-If you’re looking for a peaceful acoustic guitar, definitely click play on this song. There’s a calming energy to this track that’s sure to stand out right away. I appreciate the layered vocal in the opening with the soft “oooh” sounds. This allows for a nice basis so that the lead vocal can express some heartfelt “diary”-like lyrical expressions. The line “tonight I’m gonna sing myself to sleep” really carries a lot of weight here. I don’t know what the songwriter has been through here, but the reflection in the song is quite relatable. Sometimes we do just need to take a moment to sit with what we’re going through. This is a calming track that puts me in mind of the incredibly talented Sleeping at Last. I hope folks will give this track a chance.
