Three unique takes on the rock genre that will help you kickstart 2025

Sophia James – “Little Bit Better”
-If you’re a fan of pop rock energy, definitely give this new track from Sophia James a spin. There are some clever turns and some bluesy elements here, but more than anything it’s a power rock ballad. James has a versatile voice that allows her to dip into the lower register for moments, then only seconds later soar on the chorus. It’s a great tune that’s sure to connect for fans of dynamic pop rock music.

GOODTIME – “I guess that’s just life”
-A chilled out guitar line and a heartfelt vocal create the opening dynamic to the song that pulls me in right away. The closer I listen, I get some 90s alt rock vibes along with a mellow, engaging overall style. I appreciate the delicate highlights from the electric guitar that keep the song lively while the understated vocal expresses the soul of the lyrical content. If you’re a music fan of a certain age (ahem… like me) the content about “running out of time” feels all too real. Will that compel you to action? The song is definitely lyrical food for thought and an engaging instrumental style.

Sura Laynes – “Let the Good Times Roll”
-Okay so this song has a line about dying to make ends meet (or something like that) and let me tell you it’s pretty much spot on. There’s a desperation in the lead vocal here that gives this song a resonance that I just can’t shake. It feels like elements of the Rolling Stones blended with the 90s grunge movement ala Eddie Vedder. The combination is a truly unique take on rock music and we hope some of our readership will really latch onto this sound. It’s definitely a special blend of styles.
