Three acoustic folk tracks that will capture your attention

The National Forest – “Say You’re Mine”
-The calm acoustic guitar fits like a glove with the velvety vocal style here. This is the type of song that reminds me why I fell in love with folk music years ago. It’s emotionally driven, musically interesting, and carries a mood with it that just seems perfect for this late November. The light banjo work gives the track intriguing textures, highlighting and not taking away from the quality of the vocal work. If you’ve ever needed to “talk it out” in a relationship, this calm and measured sentiment is just perfect. We’ve featured The National Forest in the past and its easy to hear why we keep saying yes. For fans of introspective folk music in the vein of Joshua James or even Bon Iver.

John Wheeler – “Another Bridge Ya Burned”
-I appreciate the cool acoustic work on this track; it captured my attention from first listen and I keep smiling every time I play the track. There’s a calm sense to the song, even though lyrically it’s about failure and realizing you’ve burned another bridge. The banjo gives an additional folksy texture to the song that helps propel the melody along nicely. The song sits well at the intersection of roots country and folk, with these accessible lyrics that are sure to make a lot of people give a half smile and a knowing twinkle in their eyes.

Jackson Wooten – “Borrow”
-If you’re a fan of emotional singer songwriters with a penchant for acoustic guitar soundscapes, definitely give Jackson Wooten’s music a spin. Everything about this composition calms my spirit. The guitar is cathartic on its own (complete with some fun little harmonic elements), but the vocal is also delicate in all the right ways. The gentle almost-whispered vocal resonates here nicely. Lyrically, it seems to be a heartache song, lamenting that “no more love remains.” It’s an engaging, thoughtful style of folk music that I’m happy to support here.
