Introducing a pair of Indie Pop tunes that you’ll want to add to your personal playlists

Honni – “Counting Days”
-If you’ve ever waited to be with someone… impatiently… then this is definitely a song you’ll connect with. There’s a lightness to the composition that reminds me a bit of Ben Abraham’s style lately. There’s a joyful energy here, even though the song is fundamentally about missing someone who is far away. There’s an optimism in the chord selection that gives the whole composition a brightness that I really appreciate. This is the ethos of indie pop music to capture an emotion like this with a light energy. It’s about the “world spinning out of control” while also having this inherent hope that the person will return to you. Fans of vaultboy (who we have featured here) will find a lot to like in this sound.

TONE – “2WAYSPRITE”
-At first listen, you might think this song is more hip hop than indie pop, but just… hear it out. It’s got this wonderful syncopated energy in the beginning that will make you move and groove. The vocal sits right in this midpoint pocket without a lot of melodic variation, yet it manages to convey the emotions of the verse. By the time the chorus hits, the vocal emerges with a bit more runs and pulls the listener in more directly. The song is more about vibe and feel than leaning into a specific lyrical message. That said, it’s a heartache track about “waiting forever” for someone. Nevertheless, it’s a track I can picture putting on a vibey playlist to have on in the background and get me grooving.
