Laken Campo – “Ghost”
-From the first line of this song about a poltergeist, I was taken by this track. There’s a clarity in the vocal that is quite appealing. The overall energy of the song feels like the idyllic blend of folk guitar, pop vocals, and a production style that is just… *chef’s kiss*. I could listen to this type of music all day long. In fact, some days I do. I love the positive vibes on the chorus with the group vocal and optimistic chord choices. This song is a whole experience. Fans of artists like Dodie Clark and Lizzy McAlpine are going to find a LOT to enjoy about this track from Laken Campo.
Frances Whitney – “Holding On”
-If you’re a fan of indie pop, there’s a lot to like about the songwriting style of Frances Whitney. I’ve listened to this track several times because I find the quality of the vocal so appealing. The expressive style on the chorus in particular just makes me feel happy vibes with each listen. The lyrics have this ability to be about a specific situation, yet we can all relate. “Who is your muse if we’re both rockstars?” What a wonderful concept and energy to the song… one that certainly resonates. It’s a delightful example of what rock-flavored indie pop can sound like in the 21st century.
helloworld – “Heartpiece”
-Sometimes you meet a time signature that just makes you count in your head… right? It’s not just me? It’s not just the musician in me? 123-456, 123-456… over and over. It’s a swing. It’s a sway. It’s a mood. This track “Heartpiece” from helloworld has a unique energy that works for me every time. The vocal quality is solid, expressing heartfelt lines about fighting for a potential new partner. The vibey, atmospheric sections on the chorus feel positively blissful. The connection between the vocal energy and the atmospheric backing elements makes for a fantastic blend that fits perfectly in the indie pop world.
