Cactus Tree – “Poets and Philosophers”
-The acoustic guitar work on this track sets a peaceful mood. The lead vocal has a beautiful resonance that cuts through the mix well. The whole composition feels like exactly the type of folksy singer songwriter music that I fell in love with many years ago. There’s a gentleness to the phrasing that I really enjoy as well. The lyrical style connects ideas from line to line. “We all set at the same table now, grapple with things that no one knows how.” Amen to that. As a writer married to an artist, I live this song almost daily. It’s a wonderful audio expression of something I personally feel deeply inside.
Cole Swensen – “The Things You Don’t Talk About” feat. Noelle Johnson
-Wow. I’m going to say this right from the outset. This song is emotionally quite powerful. I hope that the right people who need to hear it… will hear it. Cole Swensen has a tenderness in his voice that makes him perfect for this song. There’s a genuineness to each line that shows empathy and love with great clarity. The evident care from one to another despite the circumstances is breathtakingly beautiful. To put it into perspective, the first thing I did when I heard this song was send it to a loved one. I hope you will do the same. Let it move your heart.
Maggie Pope – “Crow”
-The contemplative piano work on this track sets the mood right away. When Pope’s whispery vocal enters the track, there’s a feeling of intimacy that connects for the listener. The song has a sweet vibe to it from start to finish. The poetic lyricism, “I will fly on iridescent wings,” and similar lines are sure to resonate with a lot of listeners. It’s a beautiful piece of songwriting.
