Song of the Year Frontrunner: Jeffrey Martin – “There Is A Treasure”

Jeffrey Martin – “There Is A Treasure”
-I thought after probably 15 or 20 listens, I’d be ready to write about this song without feeling too much emotion to know what to say. I was wrong. *pause* Maybe the best way to explain how I feel about this song is to say that when I shared it with my friends, I told them I wanted them to play it at my funeral. I mean that. This isn’t just some track that I’m writing about to help out an artist; this song taps into my very bones, my soul. This is a beautiful existential reflection on what it means to live a good, whole life and to understand what our legacy is and is not when we die. Jeffrey Martin writes folk music like a theologian and a literature teacher. We are all blessed for it. “The sun will rise like it always does on the day that I die and the world will spin, the sun will go on burnin’, never even knowing I was alive.” Amen.
