Caldher – “Ride Home”
-One of the coolest feelings in writing about music is when a new artist compares their music to an artist that you covered in their early days. In this case, Caldher compared this track to Mac Ayres, who I covered early on in his career when “Easy” first broke. Caldher’s new song “Ride Home” has a similar vibe to it, with plenty of smooth soulful expressiveness. It’s a simple lyrical concept about always wanting to be the subject’s “ride home,” but it comes across as both caring and romantic with a little dash of sensuality. There’s a sweet sincerity in the vocal delivery that makes the song stand out from the crowd. I’m not sure there’s a neat and tidy genre for this song and that’s actually a good thing. This should get some pop radio airplay and let the people decide; it’s got hit potential much like “Easy” did in those early days.
