Three singer songwriters that will reinvigorate your love for music

Josie Toney – “Extra”
-I thought about saving this track for an Americana playlist because it definitely fits in that world, but it’s such a darn good song as well. Toney’s vocal has a really approachable sincerity that I think a lot of people are going to enjoy. The ease of the storytelling on this track is really accessible. I keep thinking words like “adorable” and “charming” as I listen to this one. Fans of whimsical older style country are going to find a lot to like on this one. Josie Toney is a name I’ll be watching (or listening for, I guess) in Americana in the future.

Rory Sturgeon – “This thing they call wonderful (for Theo)”
-The heart of this song is so evident, you’ll feel it on first listen. According to the submission note, Sturgeon wrote this for his younger brother. It’s a really sweet song about feeling pain on behalf of someone that you love. The balance between the piano and the vocal is phenomenal here. The main melody has this intriguing mix of jazzy pop with a poetic sincerity. It’s such a clear expression of love and emotion you really just need to hear and feel it. It’s not one to approach flippantly, that’s for sure.

Empress Eyes – “Skeleton garden”
-Fans of indie pop will immediately find something to like with the composition from Empress Eyes. But even if that’s not your preferred genre, this is the type of song that transcends genre conventions. It’s a deeply emotional, introspective song about having a hope toward change that may not actual happen. If you’ve ever attempted to have a personal transformation that didn’t seem to work that left you feeling just as bad or worse, this song will resonate. There’s a certain maturity to this track that is welcome in the indie pop space that can often be either basely immature or outrageously optimistic. This is a rooted track.
