Anni – “I choose you”
-There’s an atmospheric quality to this song that stands out to me right away. It’s a song that feels like it takes elements of pop music and mixes them with unconventional production styles at times. The lyrical style is pretty conventional for pop, but the overall style doesn’t feel like something you’d hear on major pop radio (although it certainly could). The lead vocal has a powerful energy to it. The lyrical message about choosing love is absolutely correct; any successful relationship must move beyond the mistakes and frustrations to choose to love one another. It’s an inspiring song with a pop core and inflections of creative alternative stylings.
AISTÈ – “You’ve got the feeling”
-When you first click play on this track, it almost feels like the sort of retro soul music that we heard with early Adele. That said, the more you listen this track it has an unconventional energy to it. While it’s probably not something we would hear on pop radio in the 21st century, it still has a snappy pop energy and likeability to it. The lyrics are fascinating, highlighting someone who seems to have a lot of enthusiasm but lacks proper follow-through. It’s an emotional anthem that’s great for singing along.
Lyerr – “Changing trends”
-At first glance, this is a pretty typical indie rock tune. It has a driving rhythm and a fantastic, transcendent lead vocal. The production quality on this track is insanely high quality. The whole sound fills the space really well. This track leans a bit more toward the alt rock side of alt pop, but it has a nice blends of aspects that make it somewhat ironically both “alternative” as well as “pop.” I appreciate the rising energy of the guitars and the soaring vocal style. The overall composition makes for an energetic rock track that will find a home on indie rock playlists along with pop rock, alt rock, and other anthemic singalong styles.
