Three Americana tracks to bring a sense of order to this new year

Marc Delgado – “January”
-Well, talk about a perfectly timed song! The lyrics are about enduring a long, cold January. We can certainly connect with this one. There’s an optimism to the lyrics, too, that I appreciate. It’s about focusing on the hope of the coming spring. The sense of adventure and forward momentum despite the mundane parts of life feels ever present in this song. The bluesy rock energy is sure to put a smile on the face on a lot of folks. Delgado’s freewheeling spirit reminds me a bit of Springsteen, a dash of Dylan, and a bit of Marc Broussard. The track feels familiar and fresh at the same time. It’s a good one.

National Park Radio – “Wander”
-We featured National Park Radio six years ago, so imagine my surprise seeing a new submission from this fantastic folk/Americana band. The harmonies are absolutely wonderful on this song. It has some of the high energy and up tempo banjo work reminiscent of the Mumford and Sons moment a few years back, but National Park Radio also do a great job of creating their own blend of bluegrass-influenced folk music. To be fair, I would describe this track as a combination of what I loved from Nickel Creek combined with what I loved from Mumford and Sons… all with delightful folk harmonies. This is a fantastic track and I hope a lot of our faithful readers will give it a spin.

Levi Barrett – “Caught on a rose”
-One might call this song roots or traditional country. I just call it authentic. Everything from the lead vocal to the steel guitar feels like an old time song that many generations of Americans would appreciate. It’s not every day that I listen to a song and get the good kind of chills, but I do from this track by Levi Barrett. It’s got a rough hewn quality to it that will remind you of earlier times, even if you’re too young to remember them. It’s like a living piece of history; take it in, listen, and feel the emotions.
