Bad Mother Nature – “Now you’re gone”
-This is a harmony driven blues song, basically. That said, the harmonies are absolutely outstanding. The overall vibe of the track feels polished and almost Queen-like in its construction. Fans of folk rock will find a lot to like from this track. If you’ve ever been in a breakup that leaves you feeling completely lost and looking for direction, the lyrics will resonate for sure. This is a powerful track and a great way to start off your 2023 playlists.
Dasha – “Wish that you were here”
-There’s a poetic sincerity to this track that I enjoyed from first listen. The quality of the production allows the vocal to cut through perfectly. While it is ostensibly a pop song in structure, the overall energy and vibe reminds me a lot of classic folk singer songwriters. Fans of the pop folk fusion of an artist like Maggie Rogers will find a lot to like from Dasha’s songwriting. The delicate harmonies on the chorus are transcendent and powerful; they’ll find a way to speak to your soul, trust me.
Jake Thistle – “Ghosted road”
-If acoustic guitar singer songwriters are your thing, be sure to spend some time with this new track from the rising star Jake Thistle. The classic rock energy at the heart of the track definitely propels it along nicely. There’s a ton of energy and enthusiasm in Thistle’s vocal, but it doesn’t hurt the melody. There’s a lot to like about the chord progression on the chorus, too, giving the song a complexity that we rarely hear from more predictable and traditional songwriting. I dig this track a lot and plan to watch Thistle’s promising career carefully moving forward.
