Three indie folk tracks to get the emotions flowing

Dan Pallotta – “The mailman”
-We’ve been suckers for narrative folk music for a long time. Pallotta’s style reminds me a bit of the mid-60s folk revival. When the orchestral elements come into the track, there’s an emotional element that really takes off. The “mailman” theme reminds listeners of John Prine’s start in music, too. But these stories are all so human, so real, and so meaningful. It’s an adventure and if you’ve been privileged to live a bit of life, you’ll relate to an awful lot of these. It’s beautiful.

Mount Arla – “Eleanor”
-Alright so in the middle of thinking about what to write here, I stopped to share this song with a few of my friends. If that’s not an endorsement, I don’t know what is. This song has some of the best vocal harmonies I’ve heard all year. It’s beautiful. I would describe it as folk music for fans of bands like Darlingside and Good Old war. The overall composition is undeniably comfortable and easy going. I really appreciate the production style as well. It’s just a hit across the board.

Sophia Alexa – “Going to California”
-I love how clear Sophia Alexa’s vocal is. It feels like you’re leaning in for a conversation with a dear friend and she’s telling a story. It’s unbelievably sweet and interesting. Then once the full band enters with its rhythmic energy, the song feels super chill. It still has a “chillin with friends” vibe to it. At times Alexa’s vocal inflections feel a bit like Dodie Clark and I mean that as absolutely high praise. The whole composition has this modern folk polish to it that makes for really easy, calm listening. I dig the energy and hope that others will give Sophia Alexa a spin as well.
