Three rock jams to pump up the weekend

We Were Promised Jetpacks – “If it happens”
-The reigning champion for coolest band name, We Were Promised Jetpacks continue to impress us with their innovative sound. A bit of 80s era synth and some pop rock energy make for something that feels familiar but it certainly unique. When co-founder Casey Karger first heard this band’s name he said we have to cover them on name alone. I didn’t disagree; and now I’m happy to say we’re covering the music for its own merits (as we did back then, to be fair). The cool energy of this track makes it perfect for a chill summer playlist. Equal parts REM and Toto, the band carries with it a vintage and inspiring sound that you want in your life.

Gerald Dusek – “Dreaming”
-This song feels like a mashup of every pop rock band I heard from about 1995 until 2015. It’s got a little bit of everything and I love that about it. The lead vocal absolutely shines, the chords are a steady base for the track, and the drum fills are vintage early 2000s pop rock. The whole production feels like something you’ve heard a thousand times, but it’s brand new. I can’t even come up with a good comp band because they’re like SO MANY all rolled into one. Just jam out and enjoy. As for me, I’ll be in my 1990 Chevy Lumina driving too fast on my way to see some friends!

Kristian Grostad – “Summer is over”
-There’s an up tempo, feel good style to this track that really stands out for me. Despite a sad lyrical vibe, the track carries forth a 60s style pop rock energy. The phrasing on the vocal makes for easy to sing-a-long little snippets on both the verses and the chorus. The vocal harmonies on the chorus will have you either singing or humming along every time, I guarantee. The little half step chord changes are really fun, making for an entertaining pop rock feeling that is comfortable and exciting. Spin this one and put it on your playlist for your summer playlists.
