Hauskey – “Slow”
-This track slays. There I said it. The groove hits really well. I don’t know how the artist was able to write a lyric that fits the groove so perfectly, but this is one of my favorite hooks I’ve heard in a really LONG time. I like the way the self-deprecating lyric at the core of the track’s message feels self-aware but also kind of like saying “I could care less” at the same time. It’s sad and cocky all at once.
Cobey – “Just speak up”
-“Just speak up. We lost our way.”
-I don’t really want to say much more than to repeat that lyric. I could have approved the track on the vocal harmonies alone. I could have approved it for the unique percussive elements that move me almost involuntarily. But at the end of the day, I approved it because the lyrics resonate. WE LOST OUR WAY. What are we going to do about it now? So good.
