Daniella Mason – “Cruel Summer”
Mason has an impressive pop resume. Writing tracks for Nick Jonas, touring with Demi Lovato, and opening for DNCE, her pop sensibilities are on point with the current spirit of the genre. “Cruel Summer” is extremely catchy, while being just outside the genre to grab the attention of the indie crowd. The video is also pretty impressive. An ode to the end of summer days, the pool party theme was created by an all female cast and crew. Mason is the real deal and is sure to grab your attention with her infectious and vibrant sound.
Misty Boyce – “Oh Marie”
Don’t sleep on this one. The dynamic and vulnerable songwriting of Boyce is easy to overlook only because of the incredible feeling it produces within the listener. “Oh Marie” is written like a folk confessional, but blends pop elements and hypnotic piano parts in a way that is pure artistry. Her Get Lost album speaks of a true talent that is not afraid of confronting the events of her life, including her Evangelical upbringing and her stepfather’s suicide. Fans of Angel Olsen will especially like the songwriter’s take on life and melody. While we cannot wait for her to unleash these tunes on the world, she has an impressive catalog of jams including one of our favorites below.
Ariela Jacobs – “Dare You To Run”
The music of this young songstress is sort of an enigma. “Dare You To Run” has a highly emotive piano throughout, reminding us of Tori Amos, while her lyrics are incredibly deep and have traces of Lorde. Vocally, you could easily mistake her for a pop artist on the top 40 channels. We appreciate her mix of genre and sound without reaching outside of her immense talent. Jacobs has us euphorically anxious for her new EP.
