Free Christmas Music!

As we here at EarToTheGround Music prepare to share our year end lists with you (its our favorite time of year), I thought you might enjoy some free holiday tunes to cheer you up and make your wallet happy. Some of these may have been mentioned before, but as always, we’re only putting music on our site that we enjoy. If you see it here, it’s worth a download. I mean, come on, it’s all free. You’d be silly not to take it.

Here’s a collection of Christmas songs from Ben Rector. It features his particularly strong voice and his fun, party style piano and crowd noise. “Auld Lang Syne” is particularly good. Also, tip on this one! All the proceeds go to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Sufjan Stevens has a 58 track (!!) Christmas album out this year and this sampler gives you a little dose of what it’s like. Sufjan being his normal self, which is both great and strange. “Christmas in the Room” is fantastic.

We did a whole post on this album, but I’m putting it here in case you missed it last time. It’s an incredibly deep album, from top to bottom, and one of those albums that makes you wanna listen to Christmas music all year round.

We reviewed this phenomenal EP from Fiction Family, the duo of Sean Watkins, formerly of Nickel Creek, and Jon Foreman, frontman from Switchfoot. It’s a slightly more mellow version of both, with their distinct vocals and excellent songwriting.

For those fans of pop music and traditional pop vocals, Tim Halperin is an excellent addition to your collection. “Under That Christmas Spell” is sure to become one of your new holiday favorites.

Our only compilation comes from The Music Bed and features some of our favorites. Matthew Mayfield, Sugar and the Hi-lows, JJ Heller, and Green River Ordinance all make appearances on my favorite compilation of the year.
