Carolyn Berk, of Portland-based Lovers, masterfully crafts lyrics that draw you into a song’s emotional space: “I asked for answers from the ocean waves. ‘If it’s meant to be then it will be,’ they said.” Stripped of the synth and electronic effects, this minimalist acoustic performance of “Shepherds of the Stray Hearts” creates space for us to listen to the simultaneously spare and expansive beauty (read: mad tastefulness) of the song’s lyrics and melody.
