V!ctoria – “Late to the Party”
-This was one of those songs that I clicked play and, not knowing what to expect, was absolutely floored on the spot. I don’t even know how to explain what I mean when I say “alt pop” and then I listen to this and say, “yeah, that’s alt pop.” It has elements of pop but it’s certainly not a top 40 track. There’s something here that I love in the vein of Lawrence or other jazz-informed pop acts. I just feel like this would be incredible to stand in the room with these artists. It’s giving “theater kids riffing after the show” vibes and I’m honestly so here for it.
Last Chance Anthem – “High on this Feeling”
-The production value on this track is outstanding. I’ve been impressed with each listen on the depth of the recording, the hit of the bass, and the soaring vocal. The combination of the full production feels like a true rock anthem; it makes me want to jump in the crowd or climb up on stage with the band. The lyrics are about seizing the day and working to raise others around us. It’s really a needed message in a world that can feel so broken and troubled. The optimism here is cathartic and inspiring.
Missing Since Monday – “Halloween”
-I almost laughed when I saw this title in our submission list; I was going to just say, “we don’t feature holiday music on our site,” but as I listened I found the pop punk energy to be outstanding on this track! It takes me back to the early 2000s when I listened to this style of music a great deal. The power chords pull you in, the rhythm will get you moving, and the vocals portray a message of going to a Halloween party together. “Is this a nightmare or a dream?” This is a really catchy chorus and I think the band (especially this track) deserves much more attention. Fans of Sum41 and Good Charlotte will find a lot to like from this track.
