Three new folk pop flavored tracks that will have you leaning in to connect with the heart of the song

Aubory Bugg – “just embers now”
-When I first heard this track, I approved it almost instantly. It took me a while to catch the comparison, but I have settled on Brandi Carlile. There’s a charming element to the vocal that definitely captures my attention, but also this detailed nuance in the writing that makes it particularly crisp. I typically would recommend that an artist slow down a track like this that is so narrative driven to allow the listener to keep up… but there’s a genuineness to this composition that feels more like if we’re having a hard time following we should play it again. This story about an angel girl has an exciting sense of momentum that’s not slowing down for anyone… and frankly, I love that.

Gemma Cox – “What About Now”
-There’s a sophistication to this song that stands out right from the beginning. I’m not sure if it’s the theatrical framing or the quality of the vocal, but it all feels so polished. I am definitely getting some Sara Bareilles vibes from this sound. The piano driven energy carries a lot of weight. The repetition on the chorus, particularly the “what about ’bout now?” lyric makes me smile; I guess it’s just the charming sensibility of hoping things pan out eventually, but with this inherent impatience. When you’re waiting for someone to come around to the relationship, this impatience can feel both cathartic and unnerving. I definitely appreciate the emotional depth while having a buoyant pop folk energy to it.

coney – “Rock Bottom Eyes”
-Something about the production style of this song feels intimate and genuine. I appreciate the expressive quality of the vocal style. The overall track has a tender element to it. The lyrical expression carries a deep desire for a connection that seems to be missing or falling away. I appreciate the lyric, “can’t place what I feel” as that’s such a relatable experience, especially in the early days of a potential relationship. This is a wonderfully unique track from a promising new songwriter.
