Three brand new alt pop tracks to bring some variety to your playlists

Phil and the Blanks – “GOOD LIFE ft. bella amor”
-This might not be the kind of song that you expect to find on ETTG, but when this came up in our submissions it felt right. There are primarily three things that caught my attention with the track; I dig the moving percussive energy here. Second, I love the harmonic balance with the vocal blending. Third, I’m a huge fan of the optimism in the lyrical message about living the good life. It makes me feel young and energized. As someone who grew up listening to a fair bit of pop punk, these power chords work really well here. Also the call to “get back to the good life” feels almost like a generational anthem. I don’t want to make any political statements here, but there are hopefully some brighter futures emerging soon. I appreciate the optimism of this track.

Sidney – “when you know, you know”
-Whether you feel a Billie Eilish or a Lizzy McAlpine vibe here, there’s definitely something special being expressed with this song from emerging artist Sidney. The cathartic, introspective style is exceptional, allowing the listener to truly feel the emotional heart of the track. The lyrics are about the sense of intuition, when you know about someone and who they truly are. I’ve definitely felt this in my life, but have never thought to put it into words much less write a song about it. The delicate production choices like the strings and chill percussive style allow the listener to be lulled into the softness of the message. I adore this style and hope to hear more from Sidney.

Kelsey Montanez – “Big Machine”
-The electric guitars in the opening of this track sound outstanding, creating this glowing style of alt rock vibes before the vocal enters the track. But when Montanez starts to sing we take notice. Goodness, this is an exceptional vocal performance that absolutely makes everyone stop and listen. The lyrics carry this mysterious vibe about them, causing the listener to lean in and focus a bit. The overall energy of the track feels like it takes the mystery and timelessness of an old wild west movie, combined with the snazzy production pop of recent indie alt rock songwriting; the resultant art product is truly unique. If there was justice in the world, this type of music would have an opportunity to chart. If you’re looking for something truly different that has an outstanding vocal performance, you simply have to spin this new track from Kelsey Montanez.
