Three alt pop singer songwriters that really stand out from the crowd

leo. – “never enough, never fair”
-Ok hear me out now, but I think leo. is in the same vein as Dodie Clark. What I mean is that there’s a tender, emotive element here that makes we want to curl up in the song. If you’ve been around the site long enough to remember my writing on Rusty Clanton, I have to say I feel very similarly with leo. This is a wonderfully tender, almost artful folk song. If you’ve ever felt like you’re never enough for someone (i.e. seeking their acceptance, or maybe your own) then this song will resonate. Using orchestral folk detailing and some clever melodic turns, the track is the quintessence of alt pop music in 2026. It’s definitely worth your consideration.

Heddy Edwards – “Cinematic vision”
-This track has an up tempo energy that feels like rock meets alt pop. The expressive lead vocal does a nice job of conveying the lyrics here. The layered production works really well, creating a sense of moment and forward movement. The soaring vocal style on the chorus reminds me of the great voices of the last century like Pat Benetar. In fact, some of the melodic structures and overall energy here really remind me of the hair bands of the 80s (in a good way). If you’re seeking an artsy, alternative style of rock that has some pop bounce to it, definitely give Heddy Edwards a spin.

RYDE – “Leave No Trace”
-If you’re a fan of folk duos, definitely click on this track. But let me tell you… this is not your grandparents’ folk music; there’s an almost timeless nature to the structure that has classic vocal harmonies, sure, but the overall composition feels very 21st century. I appreciate the artful use of electronics and production adjustments that make the sound stand out. I don’t think the artists would take it as an insult for me to say this is “quirky” in a good way. It’s unexpected. It twists and turns, with these relatable and accessible vocals, while also having production elements that feel like they pop out from around the corner and surprise your ears in delightful ways. This is a musical journey in song form, well worth your exploration and connection.
