naomi skye – “three leaf clover”
-There’s a gentle acoustic style on this track that makes it feel comfortable and engaging. The opening is about what might happen and the chorus transitions to this hopeful “maybe we’ll make it” energy. There’s something delightfully light and bright in the composition style here. Skye’s vocal has a lightness that conveys the lyrical message well. The full composition is a sound that is a bit adjacent to the Dodie Clark style of indie pop that’s quite resonate in the music world currently. I’m definitely happy to rest into this song and feel the hopefulness between the lines.
Pierce Alexander – “Picture Perfect”
-The calm acoustic guitar here balances nicely with an atmospheric energy. The whole framing of the production serves to allow the quality vocal to cut through. The calm energy on the vocal harmonies really connects for me and is the standout feature of the song. When the piano enters the track (the bridge?) there’s this wonderful lightness to the composition that feels like a warm hug. The lyrical message is about being in a “picture perfect” relationship, but underneath the surface things are not going well. It’s really emotional and deep if you’ve ever been in this deceptive sort of relationship. I hope for whoever this is about that they find authenticity and genuine hope. It’s so raw and real; I’ll carry this one with me.
Harvey Brittain – “obsessed”
-I am not sure what is happening musically that makes this song so electric, but it absolutely stands out with a ton of energy. Sometimes I listen to music that just makes me feel younger and this is one of those songs. I mean, I wasn’t that cool when I was younger, but this song makes me feel like I’m in my early 20s with all the vibrancy and excitement of young love. It’s an upbeat pop rock song that is laden with a ton of raw energy and power. I could picture this being amazingly fun to dance to at a live show. Well done to the artist, of course, but the production on this song is on another level.
