Three rock tunes to bring some pep to your step this weekend

Shipwrecker – “Voice in my head”
-If you’ve ever had a voice in your head for better or worse, you’ll relate to this song. This particular voice is about a negative/distracting/disturbing voice. It’s an unsettling track if you’ve ever had this experience, but it might be welcoming to know you’re not alone. The raucous energy of the track does a nice job of mirroring the chaos of hearing these voices. It has a kind of classic late 70s early 80s rock energy to it. Fans of bands like Guns n’ Roses will appreciate the uproarious rock style here.

future.exboyfriend – “High at the gym”
-This is a clever track with a lot of character. The effects in the background have a really fascinating psychedelic energy to them, which of course fits well with the theme of being high at the gym. I don’t have much familiarity with the theme, but I do know that the song has a really cool vibe that’s sure to fit in a lot of good rock playlists. The layered vocal and guitar work here is powerful. The lead vocal has an idiosyncratic style and it allows the sound to permeate over the rest of the rich backing instrumentation. The end result is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before — in the best way possible.

Amateur Hour – “Cowboy”
-Fans of Queen will definitely be interested in this track. The layered vocals here are absolutely amazing. I could listen to these harmonies all day. The pacing of the track feels a bit like musical theater. The lyrics are a tad quizzical, but they seem to be about someone who is acting differently than they truly are. But honestly, the expressive vocal harmonies are so good I am not too fixated on the lyrics here. Fans of experimental rock with a shade towards Queen-style epic harmonies will find a lot to like here.
