Three brand new Indie Rock tracks that hint at alt rock, pop punk, and tons of good vibes

The Ansells – “Work It Out”
-When I tell people that I write about indie rock, this is the kind of music I want them to imagine. The sound is driven by electric guitars, a driving rhythm, and some captivating vocals. I’m not sure if there’s an easy comparison for the Ansells, but I just feel good listening to the sound. The lyrics are intriguing if you lean in and listen, but the song feels equally good as just a vibe in the background. There’s something inherently nostalgic here, both reflecting back to artists like Bush and the Wallflowers in the late 90s, but also the nostalgia of a time in my life where relationships had this sort of possibility. I feel this one personally.

Grenon – “healed heart broken mind”
-Give me all the kick drum. This song feels like it’s propelling itself forward whether the listener likes it or not. There’s an inherent emotional message here that’s sure to resonate with a lot of listeners. I appreciate the quality of the lead vocal, which has just the right amount of production flourish to keep it strong through the performance but it doesn’t feel overly altered. There’s a pop edge to the composition here that cuts through the air nicely, but the attitude of the song almost feels punk to me. I appreciate the genre blend and the quality of the production mix on this one, which will be right at home on our pop rock playlist.

Up From Here – “Cluttered Mind”
-People might not believe that the guy who runs a folk music blog actually was a bit of a scene kid back in the day, but I was. I’ve been to more live pop punk shows than folk (true fact!). This track from Up From Here makes me feel about half my age. I can almost smell the venue just listening to this track. The power chords are outstanding and the vocals are absolutely vintage (in the best way). Fans of artists like Sum41 and Good Charlotte are going to LOVE this sound. The pure energy in the track is something I wish I could bottle and consume; it feels like my youth captured in a track. “Your words feel like a bruise.” Oh gosh… I won’t name names, but good heavens am I thinking of some specific people. This is an amazing time machine of a song!
