Three new indie pop tracks that will have you sharing with your friends

Genevieve Racette – “Common Denominator”
-If you’re looking for an up tempo pop track that carries some emotional weight, definitely click play on this one. There’s a lot of energy to the recording that keeps it moving. The vocal is excellent from Racette, an artist we’ve featured in the past. There’s something about the mature “adult contemporary” sound that permeates with this track. To be honest, though, there’s an energy here that would make this track quite at home alongside recent releases from Taylor Swift or Chappell Roan. At some point we all have to admit that “pop” music doesn’t mean bubblegum simplicity anymore; an emotionally rich, moving pop rock anthem is as much pop as any music in our world today. Even the lyrical concept feels like something from a Swift album and I mean that as a genuine compliment. Give this one a spin if you’re looking for some energetic, emotionally attentive pop rock.

Gatlin – “Florida Man”
-I don’t know what I expected when I clicked on this track, but I can say it wasn’t any of that. Instead, I found a crisp and well-written track that feels like equal parts indie pop and alt rock that could have charted back in the early 90s. There’s a genuineness here that reminds me of what made artists like Tori Amos so successful back in that era; the lyrics feel raw and believable. The more I listened, the more I understood the lyrical concept, which is about growing up in a restrictive religious community and feeling unwelcome there later. There’s a fair bit of bitterness in the lyrics, but you can also feel the freedom expressed in the chorus; it’s a story of resilience and finding “your people” in opposition to the folks who try to claim you. It’s anthemic and meaningful; I hope it becomes massively popular because it’s so good.

Goldneck – “You’re Gone”
-There’s a sincerity in this recording that captured my heart right from the start. The vocal is clear and honest, which always wins me over. The lyrical style tells a relatable story that pulls me in. Interestingly, the information on this artist explains that he’s an EDM producer and the vocalist is not named. I wish I could give credit for the artist that performed these lines. I’m not sure how much of this is synthetic and how much is real, but I feel like this song represents the transition we are all experiencing with increasingly altered realities and art. Nevertheless, I appreciate this sound and expect we will have a lot more of this in our ears in the coming years.
